Jesus our Kinsman Redeemer

Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer who has bought us from the slave market of sin and death. In the ancient world slavery was very common. There were many ways a person would become a slave. He might be born into slavery or be a son of a slave who would also be considered a slave, be captured and led away in chains to a foreign country to be sold into slavery or because of debt one might sell himself into slavery to pay the debt owed.
Can a slave ever regain his freedom? Yes. But only if the redemption price is paid. According to Leviticus a person who was a slave could only become redeemed if one of his brothers redeemed him or if he prospered he could redeem himself.
"Now if the means of a stranger or of a sojourner with you becomes sufficient, and a countryman of yours becomes so poor with regard to him as to sell himself to a stranger who is sojourning with you, or to the descendants of a stranger’s family, then he shall have redemption right after he has been sold. One of his brothers may redeem him, or his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or one of his blood relatives from his family may redeem him; or if he prospers, he may redeem himself." Leviticus 25:47-49
This was the law of the kinsman redeemer and to qualify as such the following requirements had to be met:
He must be a kinsman or related to the one whom was to be freed or bought out of slavery.
He must be free from slavery or the debt which had fallen on the one who was to be redeemed.
He must be able to have the necessary sum of money to pay the price.
He must be willing to make the sacrifice of paying the price.
Jesus fulfilled all of the requirements of the Kinsman Redeemer. "Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook in the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives." Hebrews 2:14-15
Jesus fulfilled all four of the requirements of a Kinsman Redeemer.
Jesus became a Kinsman by becoming a man (thus related to us) as one of Abraham's descendants. God became man, but more importantly a Jew. If you belong to Christ then you belong to Him and are an heir with Abraham.
He was free from the bondage of sin. Jesus Christ was the only man who has ever been free from sin. From the day that Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden all have been under the slavery of sin. Only Christ was qualified to set us free from our bondage.
He was able to pay the ransom price. Jesus was God in the flesh. Only the death of such a One chould have been sufficient to pay for the sins of the whole world He who knew no sin became sin and conquered sin and death forever.
He was willing to pay the price. God loved us enough to send His Son to die in our place so we could be redeemed and have salvation. This is the great message of the gospel. It is the message that God’s love has triumphed over the work of Satan to set us free.
"That through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil."
The Lord Jesus Christ can redeem. He is able to save. God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name above every name, and some day every tongue must confess and every knee must bow to Him.
"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11
Jesus wants to be your Kinsman Redeemer and save you from the slave market of sin and death. He will if you'll trust Him as Saviour.
